Lieto, a small town in Southwest Finland, is home to a bus body manufacturer with 85 years of bus building experience and a keen eye on the future. Carrus Delta Oy is one of the largest Scandinavian coach body manufacturers and has produced many bus bodies for Volvo over the years.

The company’s latest novelty is the bus body construction for Volvo’s 2020 double-decker, aimed primarily for the Northern European market.

Stalatube’s history with Carrus Delta also dates to well over a decade and the two companies work in close co-operation. Stalatube manufactures and supplies all tubes and tube components for the stainless steel bus bodies, including the new 4.25-meter tall double-decker named the Volvo 9700 DD.

Carrus Delta’s designs incorporate both ferritic as well as lean duplex stainless steel.

“Volvo buses designed and manufactured by Carrus are a great example of how to make use of the benefits of Lean Duplex. Smart optimization through combining lean duplex and ferritic brings down the weight of the bus body,” explains Jori Määttänen, Sales Director of Stalatube Oy.

Stalatube’s product quality has been consistently high – we can rely on getting exactly what we need.

The lower weight is achieved with high-strength lean duplex tubes and tube components. It results in decreased fuel costs and CO2 emissions, as well as an increase in passenger capacity. Modern lean duplex grades EN 1.4062 and EN 1.4162 are known to also have an excellent energy absorption capacity, and they allow for dissimilar welds with ferritic grades such as EN 1.4003.

“Stalatube’s product quality has been consistently high – we can rely on getting exactly what we need. We also value their flexibility and ability to respond to customer demands in new projects ”
