Biogas production, often integrated into wastewater treatment plants, plays a growing role in the shift toward renewable energy. These processes involve aggressive chemical environments and elevated temperatures, placing high demands on materials. Stainless steel offers the corrosion resistance, strength, and durability needed to ensure long service life, low maintenance, and reliable performance in biogas and wastewater applications.
Stainless Steel: A Durable Choice for Biogas and Wastewater Systems
Biogas, produced from organic waste, is becoming increasingly important in the transition to renewable energy sources. A significant portion of this biogas is generated at wastewater treatment plants. Many of the processes used in biogas are chemical processes, with conditions that make tough demands on materials, both in terms of corrosion and high temperatures. Stainless steel is therefore crucial in biogas and wastewater industries due to its superior corrosion resistance against acidic/aggressive media, high strength for tanks and digesters, durability, and hygienic, easy-to-clean surfaces. This ensures a longer system life, lower maintenance, and preventing contamination compared to alternatives like coated steel, making it a sustainable, long-term solution.
Stainless steel is the smart choice for biogas & wastewater applications
Stainless steel offers an exceptional combination of corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and durability, making it an ideal material for components in biogas and wastewater applications. Unlike carbon steel, it delivers a significantly longer service life in acidic and corrosive environments, without the need for additional (toxic) coatings. Its low maintenance requirements, temperature resistance, and recyclability make it not only a high-performance option but also a sustainable one. Last but not least, the material has a residual value at the end of its life cycle thanks to its recyclability.
Stalatube
In addition to the standard advantages of stainless steel, Stalatube also offers additional optimizations.
Stalatube supplies a comprehensive range of structural components, such as hollow sections, L-profiles, U-channels and I-beams. Stalatube distinguish features lies in:
- Stalatube applies high-quality advanced laser, TIG/plasma and MAG welding. This is essential where the pipes are subject to a lot of tension and force.
- Stalatube offers cut-to-length service, up to 18 mtr. This is useful f.e. for tubes that stand upright in the tank and to which an agitator is connected.
- Stalatube offers a wide selection of material grades. In addition to the standard grades 304L and 316L, we offer various Duplex grades (1.4462 / 1.4362 / 1.4162) and much more. Stalatube offers solutions for each corrosion class.
- Stalatube offers additional treatments, such as laser cutting, perforations and surface enhancement.
Sustainability
One of the key points of Stalatube’s policy is sustainable business operations. Stainless steel is 100 % circular. We guarantee that at least 75% of the raw materials used in the production are recycled. In practice, the average rate is 90% (2024).
As part of our commitment to society, our people and the environment, Stalatube completes a thorough assessment of its business sustainability practices every year through EcoVadis. The EcoVadis assessment includes 21 sustainability criteria across four core themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. In our first rating, completed in December 2024, we earned a silver medal and scored a 70/100, placing Stalatube in the top 10 % of more than 150 000 companies globally.
